http://edition.presstv.ir/TextOnly/detail.aspx?id=267141 Blast injures dozens Afghan, US forces LAST UPDATE Wed, 17 Oct 2012 06:53:35 GMT A powerful car bomb has targeted a major US-run base in the Paktia province in eastern Afghanistan, injuring dozens of Afghan and US forces. The attack was carried out at 7:17 a.m. local time on Wednesday when the explosives placed in the vehicle were detonated near the US outpost in the Zurmat district in southern Paktia, provincial officials said. Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the attack and said several militants entered the base following the attack and clashed with US forces at the outpost. Violence in Afghanistan has been on the rise in recent months, despite the presence of thousands of US-led foreign forces in the war-ravaged country. The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror. The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but years into the invasion, insecurity rages on across the country.
