'Israel behind Lebanon bombing'

http://edition.presstv.ir/TextOnly/detail.aspx?id=267707 'Israel behind Lebanon bombing' Sat, 20 Oct 2012 04:43:54 GMT Some political analysts have blamed the Israeli regime for a deadly car bombing in the Lebanese capital in which at least eight people, including a senior intelligence official, were killed and dozens of others were injured. “As 1992 to today in the day bombing of Beirut the identical scenario, who benefits from attempting to divide Lebanon and spread the turmoil, who benefits destabilizing the government in Damascus, who states to destabilize Beirut and subject Lebanon to civil war, the Zionist regime (Israel), the Mossad. It is a classical operation of Mossad,” Ralph Schoenman, a political commentator from Berkeley, told Press TV. Brigadier General Wissam al-Hassan -- the intelligence chief of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces - is believed to be the intended target of the attack that took place near Sassine Square in Beirut’s predominantly Christian district of Ashrafiya on Friday. Wissam al-Hassan had recently dismantled an Israeli spy cell in Lebanon. Lebanese government is to hold an emergency cabinet meeting to discuss the Friday’s deadly bomb blast. The government has already declared Saturday a day of mourning for the victims of the incident. Lebanese political parties have described the terrorist attack as an attempt to destabilize the country. Meanwhile, the anti-Syrian March 14 alliance has said Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati must be held accountable for the bombing, calling for his resignation. "The anti-Syrian group has also accused Syrian President Bashar al-Assad of orchestrating the attack and has demanded the expulsion of Syrian ambassador to Lebanon. This is while the Syrian government was among the first countries to condemn the bombing as a “cowardly” move." Prime Minister Mikati said the government was trying to identify and punish the perpetrators of the terrorist attack. Friday’s attack is the worst to hit Beirut in almost four years.

Poverty threatens one third of Israelis

http://edition.presstv.ir/TextOnly/detail.aspx?id=267346 Poverty threatens one third of Israelis Thu, 18 Oct 2012 07:41:51 GMT New figures show that poverty rate is increasing and social and economic gaps are widening in the Israeli society as it has experienced growing economic inequality over the past several years. According to the figures released by the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) on Wednesday, 31 percent of Israelis were at risk of poverty in 2010, up from 27 percent in 2000, which indicates a greater increase than that in any country of the European Union, except Germany. The CBS says an individual at risk of poverty is one who is in a household where per capita income is less than 60 percent of the median disposable income. Meanwhile, the results of a survey conducted by the Israeli humanitarian aid organization, Latet, showed that some 75 percent of Israelis fear that their economy may collapse, which shows a huge increase in the figure compared with that of 2010. The Latet poll also suggested that 78 percent of those surveyed said the Tel Aviv regime has no plans for fighting poverty and bridging the widening social gap. The ailing economy of the Israeli regime has also taken its toll on politics. On October 15, Israeli parliamentarians voted to dissolve the Knesset and hold snap elections on January 2013, which were initially scheduled for next October. The decision was taken after the gridlock among different coalition partners over the passage of the 2013 austerity budget. In recent months, Israelis have held protests against a package of sweeping austerity cuts, which the regime of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says were necessary to reduce the budget deficit and protect the economy. “I’m asking to hold elections on Tuesday, January 22, 2013,” Netanyahu told the Knesset at the start of the debate on October 15. Netanyahu has formed committees to address the demands of the anti-austerity protesters, but the demonstrators say no single concrete step has been taken. Netanyahu has also ruled out the idea of spending from outside the budget for economic reforms, a response that Israeli protesters say disillusioned them.

Illegal CIA drone attack kills 9 in Yemen

http://edition.presstv.ir/TextOnly/detail.aspx?id=267342 US assassination drone kills 9 in Yemen LAST UPDATE Thu, 18 Oct 2012 07:09:43 GMT At least nine people have been killed in a US assassination drone strike near the city of Jaar in southern Yemen. A Yemeni official said the unmanned aircraft fired several rockets on Thursday. Washington has been using its assassination drones in Yemen, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Somalia, and claims it is targeting terrorists, but the attacks have mostly led to massive civilian deaths. On October 4, a US drone fired four missiles at two vehicles traveling in the town of Saeed, in Yemen’s Shabawa province, killing five people. The United Nations has censured the US drone attacks as targeted killings and says they flout international law. "According to a recent report by Yemen’s National Organization for Defending Rights and Freedoms, over 300 people have been killed in the strikes carried out in the southern regions of the country so far in 2012." Reports, however, say that the CIA is seeking to expand its covert drone attacks in Yemen, despite the fact that the airstrikes mostly result in civilian casualties.

Iran warns of divide and rule plots

http://edition.presstv.ir/TextOnly/detail.aspx?id=267337 Iran warns of divide and rule plots Thu, 18 Oct 2012 06:22:19 GMT Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has warned against arrogant powers’ plots to sow discord among nations in order to maintain their hegemony in the world. “Arrogant powers seek to cause conflict and disagreement among nations to maintain their rule and dominance over the world,” said President Ahmadinejad in a meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart Mahinda Rajapaksa on the sidelines of the first summit of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) in Kuwait City on Wednesday. He added that peace and security would not be preserved in the world if major powers move to make use of all tools in their hands. The Sri Lankan president, for his part, expressed his country’s determination to expand relations with Iran, calling for the removal of obstacles in the way of strengthening bilateral cooperation in various fields, particularly in energy sector. Meanwhile, in a separate meeting with Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, the Iranian president censured the current world order which does not allow independent countries to restore their full rights. “We can have good cooperation to help establish a new order in the world,” Ahmadinejad said, adding the Islamic Republic sets no limitation to enhanced ties with Thailand in all fields. The Iranian chief executive emphasized that Asian countries should promote bilateral and regional ties in various domains. The Thai premier, for her part, voiced Bangkok’s readiness to bolster cooperation with Tehran on issues of mutual interests, including economy, culture, tourism and foodstuff. President Ahmadinejad wrapped up his official visit to Kuwait on Wednesday after he participated in the first two-day ACD summit. Iran is one of the 32 members of the ACD, which was founded in 2002 to promote cooperation between Asian countries and to help integrate separate regional organizations, including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), and the (P)GCC.

al-CIAda killed Afghan soldiers found in Pakistan

http://edition.presstv.ir/TextOnly/detail.aspx?id=267289 Afghan soldiers found dead in Pakistan Wed, 17 Oct 2012 21:37:45 GMT Four Afghan soldiers, kidnapped by unknown militants a few days ago, have been found dead in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Agency near the border with Afghanistan, Press TV reports. Local sources say the bullet-riddled bodies of the troopers were recovered in Tirah valley of the violence-hit region on Wednesday. The soldiers were killed and their bodies were dumped on the Pakistan’s side of the border, the sources added. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the incident. Pakistan has been facing a surge in militant attacks in recent years and thousands of people have been killed or displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping the country.

'Civilians target of US drones in Pakistan'

http://edition.presstv.ir/TextOnly/detail.aspx?id=267285 'Civilians target of US drones in Pakistan' Wed, 17 Oct 2012 20:55:12 GMT A new study shows that only one in 50 people killed by US assassination drones are militants in Pakistan while the rest are innocent civilians. The study, conducted by Stanford and New York Universities, concludes that Washington is terrorizing women and children as well as men round the clock with its unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks. The authors of the study think that the “double-tap” method -- a drone fires a missile, then followed by a second drone -- is largely to blame for the casualties. “This shows that drone strikes go much further than simply killing innocent civilians. An entire region is being terrorized by the constant threat of death from the skies,” said Clive Stafford Smith, the director of the charity Reprive that also participated in interviewing people for the report. According to the study, Pakistan’s tribal areas near the border with Afghanistan have witnessed at least 345 drone strikes during the past eight years. “These strikes are becoming much more common,” The Independent quoted Mirza Shahzad Akbar, a Pakistani lawyer who represents victims of drone strikes, as saying. “In the past it used to be a one-off, every now and then. Now almost every other attack is a double tap. There is no justification for it.” Research also shows the consequences are much more profound than simply the fatalities, as the survivors of the attacks suffer from deep psychological trauma. Despite Pakistani government’s repeated calls on Washington to end the drone attacks, the US government continues its strikes on the tribal regions of the country. The aerial attacks were initiated by former US President George W. Bush, but have escalated under President Barack Obama. The drone strikes have triggered massive anti-US demonstrations across Pakistan to condemn the United States’ violations of their national sovereignty.

Drone victims in Pakistan, 80% civilians

http://edition.presstv.ir/TextOnly/detail.aspx?id=267277 Drone victims in Pakistan, 80% civilians Wed, 17 Oct 2012 19:23:46 GMT Islamabad has announced that contrary to US claims, 80 percent of people killed in drone attacks in the country are innocent civilians. Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik made the announcement on Wednesday. "Talking to reporters outside Parliament, Malik said the total of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks conducted in Pakistan amounted to 336 attacks, which have brought about the deaths of 2,300 people." He went on to say that 96 cross border attacks were launched from Afghanistan. Pakistani tribal regions are the target of US terror drones, with Washington claiming that its unmanned aircraft are targeting militants. However, casualty figures indicate that Pakistani civilians are the main victims of the assaults. The killing of Pakistani civilians, including women and children, in the strikes has strained relations between Islamabad and Washington, prompting Pakistani officials to send warnings to the US administration over the assaults.

Blind man Tasered by police who thought his white stick was a samurai sword

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/lancashire-police-sorry-for-using-taser-on-blind-man-colin-farmer-in-chorley.html Blind man Tasered by police who thought his white stick was a samurai sword By Simon Garner | Yahoo! News – 2 hours 15 minutes ago A blind man had to be rushed to hospital after police Tasered him because they mistakenly thought his white stick was a samurai sword. Blind Man Tasered: Police Mistake Stick For Sword (Picture: Sky News) Poor Colin Farmer, 61, was on his way to a pub in the centre of Chorley when he was stunned by police, who had received reports of a man walking through the town with a sword. Mr Farmer said he feared he was under attack from 'hooligans'. He told The Daily Telegraph: "I just felt this thump in my back. As soon as the Taser hit me I hit the ground. "I hit my head on the floor, then this policeman came around. I said 'I'm blind, I'm blind. I'm blind'." Mr Farmer, who has suffered two strokes in the past, was later discharged from hospital, but added: "I was absolutely terrified. "I thought any second I'm going to have another stroke and this one will kill me." Chief Superintendent, Stuart Williams, of Lancashire Police, said his force was 'extremely sorry' for what had happened. He said: "On Friday evening we received a number of reports that a man was walking through Chorley armed with a samurai sword. A description of the offender was circulated to officers and patrols were sent to look for the man. "One of the officers who arrived in Chorley believed he had located the offender. Despite asking the man to stop, he failed to do so and the officer discharged his Taser. "It then became apparent that this man was not the person we were looking for and officers attended to him straight away. He was taken Chorley Hospital by police officers who stayed with him whilst he was checked over by medics. They then took him to meet his friends in Chorley at his request. "Lancashire Constabulary deeply regrets what has happened. We have clearly put this man through a traumatic experience and we are extremely sorry for that. Officers have remained in contact with him and his family over the past few days to enquire about his recovery and we will continue to keep in touch with him and keep him informed of our inquiry." Lancashire Police have launched an investigation into the incident and have also referred it to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

al-CIAda blast injures dozens Afghan, US forces

http://edition.presstv.ir/TextOnly/detail.aspx?id=267141 Blast injures dozens Afghan, US forces LAST UPDATE Wed, 17 Oct 2012 06:53:35 GMT A powerful car bomb has targeted a major US-run base in the Paktia province in eastern Afghanistan, injuring dozens of Afghan and US forces. The attack was carried out at 7:17 a.m. local time on Wednesday when the explosives placed in the vehicle were detonated near the US outpost in the Zurmat district in southern Paktia, provincial officials said. Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the attack and said several militants entered the base following the attack and clashed with US forces at the outpost. Violence in Afghanistan has been on the rise in recent months, despite the presence of thousands of US-led foreign forces in the war-ravaged country. The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror. The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but years into the invasion, insecurity rages on across the country.

Amnesty condemns UK secret courts plan

http://edition.presstv.ir/TextOnly/detail.aspx?id=266771 Amnesty condemns UK secret courts plan Mon, 15 Oct 2012 09:17:02 GMT British civil rights group Amnesty International is warning that the government’s secret courts plan that allows prosecutions without a clear charge or evidence creates a dark justice system “straight from the pages of a Kafka novel.” The government is pushing a justice and security bill that allows sensitive intelligence to be presented to a judge by officials while preventing victims and claimants from knowing the allegations against them in full. Officials say the move is designed to protect national security by preventing confidential information from being exposed. Amnesty said in a report published on Monday that the secret courts plan gives the government the power to "simply play the 'national security' card whenever it wants to keep things secret". "[It poses] a real threat to the principles of fairness and open justice in the UK - principles which should always be at the heart of the justice system,” Amnesty’s UK researcher Alice Wyss said. The report-- called Left in the Dark: the use of secret evidence in the UK-- says the new bill will substantially extend the use of the so-called closed material procedures (CMPs) even to the cases where the government faces a lawsuit for human rights violations such as torture and enforced disappearance. Amnesty said the government can already rely on secret evidence in at least 21 different contexts. The report quoted a 43-year-old man who had been sentenced to detention and living under highly restrictive conditions for ten years based on evidence he has never seen. “Evidence that is kept secret, lawyers that can’t talk to you - it’s a secret justice system straight from the pages of a Kafka novel,” Wyss said. “The Justice and Security Bill will enable the government to throw a cloak of secrecy over wrongdoing. We want the House of Lords to reject this bill unless it is very seriously amended, with the secret justice components removed,” she added.

20 killed in al-CIAda Nigeria mosque attack

http://edition.presstv.ir/TextOnly/detail.aspx?id=266618 20 killed in Nigeria mosque attack LAST UPDATE Sun, 14 Oct 2012 12:57:41 GMT At least 20 Muslim worshippers have been killed in an attack by gunmen on a mosque in a village in northern Nigeria, a local official says. The incident took place in a remote village called Dogo Dawa in Nigeria’s Kaduna state on Sunday. "We are suspecting a reprisal attack by gangs of armed robbers who lost some of their members after a recent exchange of fire with the villagers and the vigilantes," Abdullahi Muhammad, a local official, told Reuters. "The village had been terrorized by an armed group operating from camps in the forest. These armed men mostly attack villages and motorists along the busy Kaduna to Lagos highway," he added. "Although no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, authorities usually hold the Boko Haram militant group accountable for such attacks." The extremist group has claimed responsibility for a number of deadly gun and bomb attacks in various parts of Nigeria since 2009. In one of the recent similar incidents, at least 26 civilians, mostly students, were killed at a hostel at the Federal Polytechnic University in the northeastern town of Mubi. The unknown gunmen entered the hostel and went from door to door calling their victims out by name before shooting or slitting their throats. The group has attacked Muslim figures as well as a range of other targets, including the United Nations building in the capital Abuja during the previous months. Human rights groups report that violent actions by Boko Haram since mid-2009 have claimed more than 1,000 lives, including over 300 this year alone.

UK faces £300k Afghan torture claim

http://edition.presstv.ir/TextOnly/detail.aspx?id=266604 UK faces £300k Afghan torture claim Sun, 14 Oct 2012 11:22:06 GMT An Afghan farmer has sued the British Ministry of Defense (MoD) accusing British soldiers of beating and torture to force him to confess to a crime he did not commit. According to Sardar Mohammed’s lawsuit at the High Court, soldiers arrested him while he was irrigating his crops in the Afghan Province of Helmand in April 2010, transferred him to a location where rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) and an RPG launcher were stored and demanded that he explains about the weapons he did not own. The father-of-two was later beaten and placed in custody before he was transferred to another detention center in Helmand later in July where he was subjected to beating and physical abuse. He was then taken to a detention facility in Kabul and tortured to the point he was forced to sign a confession that he was a Taliban member. Mohammed was kept imprisoned for another seven months and was later found guilty in a court without a lawyer and was given 16 years in jail, which he appealed an reduced to ten years. Mohammed is now asking the MoD for a £300,000 compensation in a potentially explosive case that could open the ministry to thousands of abuse and torture claims by other Afghan civilians. His lawyer Rosa Curling is now pledging to teach the British government a lesson. “The abuse our client has suffered must not be allowed to happen to anyone else,” Curling said.

‘US delisting terrorist MKO shameful’

http://edition.presstv.ir/TextOnly/detail.aspx?id=266468 ‘US delisting terrorist MKO shameful’ Sat, 13 Oct 2012 14:40:05 GMT An Iranian lawmaker has condemned as “shameful” Washington’s decision to remove the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) from the US State Department’s list of terrorist organizations. Fatemeh Alia, a member of National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iran Majlis (parliament), said Saturday that the US delisting the terrorist cell was no surprise to Iran. On September 28, Washington formally removed the MKO from its list of terror organizations one week after US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sent the US Congress a classified communication about the move. "The Iranian lawmaker stated that the MKO receives orders from the US intelligence agency, CIA, Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, as well as the British intelligence agency, MI6, to carry out terrorist operations." Members of the MKO, who had murdered over 17,000 Iranians since the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, fled to Iraq in the 1980s, where they had the support of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and set up Camp Ashraf in the eastern province of Diyala near the Iranian border. The terrorist group has carried out countless terrorist acts against Iraqi civilians. Iran has repeatedly called on the Iraqi government to expel the MKO, but the US has been putting pressure on Baghdad to resist the calls.

Activists slam UK support for dictators

http://edition.presstv.ir/TextOnly/detail.aspx?id=266432 Activists slam UK support for dictators Sat, 13 Oct 2012 10:27:03 GMT Human rights activists have accused Britain for supporting the Bahraini government, which is known for torturing and imprisoning people who oppose the regime. Activists accused Britain of aiding Bahrain’s Al-Khalifa ruling family, after the British government signed a defence treaty with the dictatorship this week in complete disregard for the violent breach of human rights on the Persian Gulf Island. A Bahraini human rights activist and daughter of an imprisoned protester, Abdulhadi al-Khawaja, recently travelled to Britain to hold talks with the Foreign Office in a desperate attempt to ask the British government for some sort of policy shift towards the Persian Gulf Island. But Maryam al-Khawaja admitted that it is “unlikely” she can get an audience in the British government with her plea. This comes as, the Bahrain Freedom Movement has also described the Thursday meeting between British Foreign Secretary William Hague and Bahraini prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa as another form of “political support” to the Al Khalifa regime. “William Hague has failed to condemn the regime for arresting the medics, human rights activists, the children or the political leaders,” The Bahraini Freedom Movement said. “He has failed to call for the prosecution of the senior torturers like [commander of Bahrain Royal Guard] Nasser bin Hamad al-khalifa or the military leader who had given orders to kill protesters and destroy people’s property and act mercilessly against Bahraini natives. It was one of the most disappointing public policies by the UK Government.,” the group added. Over the past 18 months, many civilians in Bahrain have taken to the streets to demand democracy and change. The Bahraini government has forcibly managed to remain in power by issuing an aggressive crack down on protesters. The Bahraini security forces are accused of widely using poisonous tear gas and other riot control weapons against protesters while carrying out vast political arrests even on children and abusing prisoners.

Somali pIrAteC free ship after ransom

http://edition.presstv.ir/TextOnly/detail.aspx?id=266429 Somali pirates free ship after ransom Sat, 13 Oct 2012 09:57:44 GMT Somali pirates have released a Greek-owned bulk carrier that they seized in the Arabian Sea after receiving a multi-million dollar ransom. Bile Hussein, a pirate based in Garacad in the semi-autonomous Puntland region of Somalia, said pirates released the Liberian-flagged MV Free Goddess and its crew of 21 Filipinos on Thursday. "He added that pirates received a ransom of $2.3 million for the vessel's release." Hussein noted that the ransom was much lower than the $9 million they originally demanded for the ship and its crew. The MV Free Goddess was hijacked on February 7, 2012. The bulk carrier was en route from Egypt’s Adabia port to Singapore, and carrying some 19,475 metric tons of steel cable. Attacks by heavily armed Somali pirates in speedboats have prompted some of the world's largest shipping firms to abandon the Suez Canal and reroute cargo vessels around southern Africa, resulting in higher shipping costs. Somalia -- strategically located in the Horn of Africa -- has been without a functioning government since 1991, when warlords overthrew former dictator Mohamed Siad Barre. The authority of Somalia's Transitional Federal Government is generally limited to areas around the capital Mogadishu.

CIAliban threaten to kill Malala's father

http://edition.presstv.ir/TextOnly/detail.aspx?id=266420 Taliban threaten to kill Malala's father Sat, 13 Oct 2012 09:16:50 GMT Taliban militants have threatened to kill Malala Yousufzai’s father Ziauddin after an attempt to assassinate the 14-year-old Pakistani human rights campaigner and peace activist failed. Sirajuddin Ahmad, a spokesman for the Swat Taliban militia - a militant group known to work under the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) umbrella and led by Maulana Fazlullah- said on Friday that two assassins from Fazlullah’s special hit squad had been sent to target the young schoolgirl. "“We had no intentions to kill her but were forced when she would not stop (speaking against us),” Ahmad said." He added the Taliban held a meeting a few months ago at which they unanimously agreed to kill her. The task was then given to military commanders to accomplish. “Before the attack, the two fighters personally collected information about Malala’s route to school, timing, the vehicle she used and her security,” Ahmad said. He noted that the gunmen decided to shoot her near a military checkpoint to make the point they could strike anywhere. Now that they had failed to kill Yousufzai, they would target her father, Ahmad stated. Ziauddin Yousufzai, the headmaster of a girls’ school, is on Taliban hit list for speaking against them and encouraging his daughter. “We have a clear-cut stance. Anyone who takes side with the government against us will have to die at our hands. You will see. Other important people will soon become victims,” Ahmad warned. On October 9, TTP gunmen shot Malala Yousufzai, who became a national star for speaking out against the extremists and promoting education for girls and women, in the Swat Valley of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Two other young girls were also injured when the militants attacked Yousufzai’s school bus. In 2008 and 2009, the TTP banned female education in the Swat Valley, depriving more than 40,000 girls of education. TTP militants destroyed hundreds of schools in the valley during a campaign of violence over the course of the two years, which led to a dramatic decline in the number of girls enrolled in schools in the region. In 2009, Yousufzai rose to fame for writing about life in the Swat Valley under the TTP. She later received Pakistan’s National Peace Award for bravery and was also nominated for an international children's peace award.

Illegal CIA drone strike kills 29 in Somalia

http://edition.presstv.ir/TextOnly/detail.aspx?id=266646 US drone strike kills 29 in Somalia Sun, 14 Oct 2012 15:45:36 GMT A US assassination drone strike has claimed the lives of at least 29 people in southern Somalia, Press TV reports. On Sunday, the unmanned aircraft targeted al-Shabab fighters near the Shalanbood region in Merka town. Earlier in the day, heavy clashes erupted between al-Shabab fighters and Somali government troops in the same region where at least 24 Somali troops were killed. The US military uses remote-controlled drones in Somalia for reconnaissance operations and targeted killings. "Washington has been carrying out assassination attacks using the unmanned aircraft in other countries including Afghanistan, Libya, Pakistan, and Yemen." The United States claims the CIA-run strikes are aimed at militants. But witness reports and figures offered by local authorities indicate the attacks have led to massive civilian deaths. The UN has condemned the US assassination drone strikes, saying they pose a challenge to international law. The Western-backed transitional government in Mogadishu has been battling al-Shabab fighters for the past five years, and is propped up by a strong African Union force from Uganda, Burundi, and Djibouti. Strategically located in the Horn of Africa, Somalia remains among the ones generating the highest number of refugees and internally-displaced persons in the world.

Most sea ice EVER in Antarctica – Experts blame global warming

http://iceagenow.info/2012/10/sea-ice-antarctica-experts-blame-global-warming/ Most sea ice EVER in Antarctica – Experts blame global warming By Robert On October 11, 2012 · 10 Comments How stupid do they think we are? I wonder, are these the same experts who tried to tell us that the record low amount of ice in the Arctic this summer was due to global warming? “Antarctic sea ice hit a record 7.51 million square miles in September,” says this breathless article by Seth Borenstein. “That spreading ice may be a cockeyed signal of man-made climate change.” “Shifts in wind patterns and the giant ozone hole over the Antarctic this time of year — both related to human activity — are probably behind the increase in ice, experts say. “A warming world can have complex and sometimes surprising consequences,” sais researcher Ted Maksym with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts. “It sounds counterintuitive, but the Antarctic is part of the warming as well,” says Ted Scambos of the National Snow and Ice Data Center in Colorado. “What’s happening in Antarctica bears the fingerprints of man-made climate change,” says David Vaughan of the British Antarctic Survey. I’’ll let you read the rest of the article for yourself, because I can’t bear to quote any more of this tripe. But I hope we remember the names of these “experts” as we descend into the coming ice age. Sort of like remembering David Viner, who told us that snowfall was supposed to be a thing of the past. “According to Dr Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia, within a few years winter snowfall will become “a very rare and exciting event”. “Children just aren’t going to know what snow is,” said Viner. Oh yes, I forgot to mention that University of Colorado researcher Katherine Leonard insists that the Antarctic is also getting snowier because climate change has allowed the air to carry more moisture. Let’s remember Katherine as well. I wonder, are these the same experts who tried to tell us that the record low amount of ice in the Arctic this summer was due to global warming … who now insist that a record high amount of ice in the southern hemisphere – in the Antarctic – is also caused by global warming? See entire article: http://news.yahoo.com/experts-global-warming-means-more-antarctic-ice-194009890.html Thanks to Alex Thompson and Hillbilly warlord for this linki “This is sheer hypocrisy,” says Hillbilly warlord. “The Religion of Global Warming is like all religion, it has it BOTH ways. This way you can’t refute the “faith,” anyone who disagrees is a “heretic,” and anyone who presents evidence contrary to the “faith,” is demonized, vilified and ostracized. Saying that there will be ~more~ Antarctic Ice due to Global Warming is outright ludcrous, contradictory, hypocritical, and they are grasping at straws to make excuses for “damage control.” “I read this gem this morning,” says Alex. “A few things: They quickly dismissed the antarctic ice stating it had to do with local and temporal weather phenomenon while not saying that could be a possibility in the arctic. “They made it seem that antarctic ice increase is a new phenomenon, not something that has been steadily increasing for several decades. “They not only dismiss evidence that is inconvenient, they twist it to fit their false reality. It is quite perverse and I find it strange that more people can’t tell that this is “Nothing to see here, move along” propaganda. “Keep up the good work!”

Sky NewsSky News – 34 minutes ago Cyber attacks on energy companies in the Persian Gulf raise fears of further assaults that could cause panic and destruction, the US has warned. The attacks, which have been described as a "pre-9/11 moment", used a virus called Shamoon which can spread through computer networks and overwrite files. Saudi Arabia's state oil company, Aramco, had to replace 30,000 computers after crucial system files were replaced with an image of a burning US flag. The Qatari natural gas producer RasGas was also targeted. [Related: Watch Cybergeddon here] A former US official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the investigation into the attacks is classified as secret, said the country believes Iranian hackers are to blame. The US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta publicly acknowledged the attacks for the first time, although he did not make a direct link to Iran. He said: "These attacks mark a significant escalation of the cyber threat. They have renewed concerns about still more destructive scenarios that could unfold. "We know of specific instances where intruders have successfully gained access to these control systems. "We also know they are seeking to create advanced tools to attack these systems and cause panic and destruction, and even the loss of life." The US is investing more than \$3bn a year in online security to guard against cyber attacks. Authorities have repeatedly warned that foreign hackers are probing critical computer networks, including those that control power plants, transportation systems and financial networks. Mr Panetta said: "Our mission is to defend the nation. We defend. We deter. If called upon, we take decisive action to protect our citizens. "Before September 11, the warning signs were there. We weren't organized. We weren't ready and we suffered terribly for that lack of attention. "We cannot let that happen again. This is a pre-9/11 moment."
